Extreme Storms Cause Delays
Due to extreme weather conditions and the closure of various highways, all shipments into and out of western Canada have been delayed.
December 1st, 2021 Update:
Roads remain closed with no indication of reopening. 50-100 MM of additional rain is expected Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Frontier is in the process of determining what we can do to move the freight through the U.S. as soon as possible. We have spoken to a few carriers that have attempted this alternative route and the process has been extremely slow. If we can get loads moving through the U.S, we will create a separate surcharge from BCWD accessorial based on our estimate of the additional miles, hours, and border crossing cost.
We will be taking any and all BC freight out of service and this will include intra-Vancouver since we cannot remove it separately. This will happen on a daily basis until such time roads reopen.
CN Rail is closed so we don’t have a rail option.
The operations team feels that even if roads reopen soon, there will be intermittent closures for the foreseeable future.
November 30th, 2021: Surcharge Update:
As some highways start to reopen, Frontier has begun to move freight. Significant delays are expected as a result of restrictions in place. Speed limits on these newly opened roads are reduced and the roads are accessible to essential traffic only during specific set hours. We continue to work to implement alternative routings to pick up and deliver shipments in and out of British Columbia. We’re also accepting pick-ups from Canada and the US heading to these locations, and we’ve started moving the freight that was already in our system destined to points serviced by these terminals. As a result there will be an increased cost to provide road service at this time.
Due to extra miles and extended wait times, until further notice, additional cost recovery surcharges will apply to all shipments in and out of British Columbia delivered through alternative routes, as outlined below:
• LTL/TL: Flat $30.00/shipment plus $2.50/cwt

November 23rd, 2021 update:
As of November 22, Frontier has resumed servicing Northern and Eastern BC. Our Line haul from Winnipeg to Vancouver has begun operating.
Please keep in mind that service will be slow and we do not have an ETA as to when the loads will start arriving in Vancouver.
Once the freight arrives in Vancouver we expect deliveries to the Lower Mainland and Island be completed next day.
LTL services to all of BC has also been restored but will be very slow.
November 17th, 2021 update:
The recent rainfall and subsequent flooding in BC has created a very challenging situation.
Many roads and railways into and out of BC are currently out of service.
Roads are washed out or damaged; CN & CP Rails are either damaged or closed due to risk of derailment.
Despite the situation, Frontier is dedicated to providing service to our customers during this time. We will continue to pick-up LTL freight only out of the Greater Vancouver Area, excluding any areas that are not accessible due to flooding/road damage. Shipments of full loads will not be picked up until rail and or road service out of Vancouver is restored.
For freight headed to Vancouver and surrounding areas from Toronto and Montreal; we will continue to pickup freight for both Road and Rail service.
Please expect delays on all shipments into and out of BC at this time. We are working with our rail partners to ensure we are moving freight via the best possible option as this situation continues to develop. We will continue to keep all of our customers updated throughout this process.
